"Its not that parks are escapes from the city. There escapes in the city." said Michael Van Valkenburgh. He describes that parks in the twenty first century have passive vs active within it. Passive would be like a nature walk; to experience the natural setting and environment. I think active would be settings like sporting fields.
"Well-designed parks still allow us to feel the magical sense of “enlarged freedom” that Olmsted described in the Long Meadow." I agree with this. When we design our park, it should feel spacious and not crowded and clustered.
Very good thoughts. We need to incorporate these ideals immediately. How much of each type of space do we need? How many of these types of spaces already existing near our site?? Please take an inventory of all passive and active spaces along the creek. I would recommend staying within a 1/2 mile zone. Great job!
